Florina FulbrightThe English Department of the Faculty of Letters (UAIC) are delighted to announce that our colleague, Dr. Florina Năstase has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright Visiting Scholar grant at Spelman College, Atlanta, GA.

During her six-month scholarship (September 2025 – March 2026), Dr. Năstase will conduct research in the Audre Lorde Archive, working with the Spelman Archives, the English Department, and the Women’s Resource and Research Center. Her project explores Audre Lorde’s travels to and writings about Cold War Berlin and the USSR, with a particular focus on the poet’s literary and political perception of Eastern Europe and the Eastern Bloc.

We are happy to announce the latest issue of Linguaculture, the International Journal edited by the English Department and the Linguaculture Centre for (Inter)Cultural and (Inter)Lingual Research at Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași. Co-edited by Oana COGEANU-HARAGA (Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi) and Ludmilla KOSTOVA (St. Cyril and St. Methodius University of Veliko Turnovo, Bulgaria), issue 1/2025 presents a series of original articles under the theme East≠West: Revisiting Travel and Cultural Mobility.

InterCulturalia #8: Recap & photos

WhatsApp Image 2026 04 08 at 08.48.33InterCulturalia #8, an intersection of 5 languages and several fields, organised by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in partnership with the Faculty of Geography and Geology, the Faculty of Law, Moldova State University, and the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ”Grigore T. Popa” of Iaşi, took place on the 3rd and 4th of April this year.

With a total of thirty-four panels and nine other activities, this year’s InterCulturalia brought together almost two hundred participants eager to share their contributions about embodiment and disembodiment in arts, cultures, and science. Over sixty volunteers and thirty organisers worked together to ensure the smooth running of the event across two days and several locations.

The Results of our 2025 Jane Austen Competition

Austen 5On 18 th December 2025, two days after the official 250 th anniversary of Jane Austen, we gathered in the English Department to award the winners of The Jane Austen Competition. The jury, consisting of three professors of English at the Faculty of Letters (Teodora Drișcu, assistant lecturer, Florina Năstase, lecturer and Estera Federciuc, adjunct lecturer), has selected the letters written by the following students:

  • ?First Place Award: Ana-Ivona Lungu (1 st year, Ro-En)
  • ?Second Place Award: Serena Niță (3 rd year, En-Sp)
  • ?Third Place Award: Bianca-Alice Tănase (2 nd year, Ro-En)

Many thanks to our collaborator, Corint Publishers, for all the help in organising this activity and for the beautiful works of English Literature bestowed as awards! We would also like to thank all our participants who have expressed their affectionate thoughts and gratitude for our beloved writer and are truly glad to have come together in celebration of this significant event.
