Veronica Popescu is Lecturer in the Department of English, teaching classes mostly in the fields of British literature—particularly the long eighteenth century and Shakespeare’s plays and their screen adaptations—contemporary Latino/a literature, as well as three classes in film studies, at BA and MA level. Her current research focuses on the theory and practice of adaptation, adaptation as creative translation, the (un)reliability of the adapter, authorship in adaptation and a transdisciplinary definition of the concept of adaptation. Her other research interests include Shakespeare’s afterlife in film and culture, the pedagogy of film adaptation, the questions of identity and hybridity in contemporary Latino/a literature, and indigenous feminism. She has published a series of articles on Romeo and Juliet, the theory and practice of adaptation, and on film. She contributed a short study and a selection of Romanian translations to the anniversary volume William Shakespeare’s Sonnets. For the First Time Globally Reprinted. A Quatercentenary Anthology (1609-2009), edited by Manfred Pfister and Jürgen Gutsch (SIGNAThUR, 2009) and together with Odette Blumenfeld she edited the volume Shakespeare in Europe: Nation(s) and Boundaries (Iasi, 2011). Since 2010 she has been a member of the Editorial Board of the journal of the LINGUACULTURE Research Centre, affiliated with the Department of English of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iasi. She is a member of the Romanian Association for American Studies (RAAS); Romanian Society for English and American Studies (RSEAS) and the European Shakespeare Research Association (ESRA).
