Radu Andriescu is an Assistant Professor at the Al.I. Cuza University in Iaşi, Romania. Andriescu’s study Parallelisms and Cultural Influences in Contemporary Romanian Poetry was published by Al. I. Cuza UP in 2005. Recently, he has published The American Short Story. Masters and Beginners (2013), Dickinson, Whitman and 20th Century American Poetry (2013), and he has co-translated a book by James Lacey and Williamson Murray, Moment of Battle. The Twenty Clashes that Changed the World (Polirom, 2013). With Odette Blumenfeld, he edited a number of conference volumes: International Conference Iaşi. From Margin to Centre (2000), Living in between and on Borders. International Conference, Iaşi, 21-24 March 2001 (2003), Tradition, Modernity and Postmodernity. International Conference Iaşi, 26-29 March, 2003 (2005), Mapping the Future. International Conference, Iaşi, 23–26 March 2005 (2007). He is currently on the editorial board of the literary magazineTimpul and of Linguaculture International Journal of the Iaşi LINGUACULTURE Centre for (Inter)cultural and (Inter)lingual Research.
He has also authored seven books of poetry, the latest being The Metallurgical Forest (2008, book and CD with poems read by the author) and Metallurgic (2010). His poetry has been included in a number of collections in English, such as The Poetry Of Men's Lives: An International Anthology (University of Georgia Press, 2004), The New European Poets (Graywolf Press, 2008), The Vanishing Point That Whistles: An Anthology of Contemporary Romanian Poetry (Talisman House Publishers, 2012), or Anthology of Contemporary Poetry from Iaşi (2013). In 2007, Longleaf Press published his book, The Catlan Within. Andriescu is also one of three Romanian prose poets included in Memory Glyphs (Twisted Spoon Press, 2009). With Adam J. Sorkin he translated and edited Club 8 – Poetry (2001), and with the Croatian poet Miroslav Kirin, The New Romanian Poetry. This country is barren because all the coins have been planted on the eyelids of dead men, an anthology of 12 contemporary Romanian poets, included in Poezija, nr 4-5, 2009. With Adam J. Sorkin, he has translated numerous poems, which were included in individual books, anthologies and magazines published in the U.S., in the U.K., and in Romania. He is a member of the Romanian Writers’ Union since 1994.
